Campaign fund needs auditing<\/p>\n

In the ongoing presidential campaign, candidates compete with
\none another via the print and electronic media, and also by
\nputting up banners and posters.<\/p>\n
As the public has become more critical than before, curiosity
\nand suspicion have arisen over the funds expended during this
\nperiod.<\/p>\n
Take, Jusuf Kalla, for example. He has estimated that the
\nparty he represents needs some Rp 100 billion to campaign. As
\nKalla is a billionaire, (at least fron an Indonesian perspective)
\nwith about Rp 800 billion at hand, this does not worry the
\npublic.<\/p>\n
However, the public may be suspicious about the funds for the
\ncampaigns of candidates with military backgrounds. For example, a
\nretired four-star general has a pension of only Rp 10 million a
\nmonth.<\/p>\n
It is, therefore, necessary for the Corruption Eradication
\nCommission (KPK) to update the wealth reports of candidates, and
\nalso audit their campaign funds. Auditing of campaign funds is
\nvery important to prevent money laundering.<\/p>\n
In the general election, many political parties lied about
\ntheir campaign funds. There were discrepancies between their
\ncampaign spending and the campaign funds reported to the General
\nElections Commission (KPU).<\/p>\n
Ironically, the KPU, the Election Supervisory Committee and
\nthe KPK have all failed to properly handle this matter.<\/p>\n
