        "content": "<p>Campaign carnival feared worsening traffic jam<\/p>\n<p>Bambang Nurbianto, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Serious traffic congestions are feared to hit the city on <br>\nThursday as hundreds of decorated trucks and other four-wheeled <br>\nvehicles will take part in a joint carnival to kick off the <br>\ngeneral election campaigns to take place up to April 1.<\/p>\n<p>Participant of the event will be representatives of 24 <br>\npolitical parties, 38 individual candidates, the city <br>\nadministration, election watchdogs, and 30 members of Jakarta's <br>\nProvincial and Municipal General Election Commissions.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Sutiyoso is scheduled to send participants of the <br>\ncarnival from City Hall on Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan at 8 a.m. <br>\nafter he lead a ceremony there. Participants are expected to City <br>\nHall at 7. a.m..<\/p>\n<p>From City Hall, those vehicles will pass through Jl. Medan <br>\nMerdeka Selatan, Jl. M.H. Thamrin, Jl. Sudirman and they will <br>\ngather under Semangi bridge before they continue their trips <br>\nenrouting roads in their respective municipality.<\/p>\n<p>Juri Ardiantoro, a KPU Jakarta member responsible for election <br>\ncampaigns, said each political party and DPD candidate were <br>\nallowed to send five trucks or other four-wheeled vehicles during <br>\nthe carnival.<\/p>\n<p>There will be 310 vehicles if all general election <br>\nparticipants send five. The figure is not included vehicles to be <br>\nused by representatives of the administration, election <br>\nwatchdogs, and KPU Jakarta as well as KPU from <br>\nmunicipalities\/regency.<\/p>\n<p>Juri said his office had discussed the impact of the carnival <br>\nto traffic with the police and the city communication agency.<\/p>\n<p>\"We believe the traffic congestion will not so serious because <br>\nthe carnival will be held during the three-in-one period,\" he <br>\nsaid, adding that participants would not be allowed to take more <br>\nthan five vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Participants of the carnival, however, will not only pass the <br>\nthree-in-one roads. From Semanggi clover-leaf, they will continue <br>\ntheir carnival to their respective municipality.<\/p>\n<p>Participants from Central Jakarta will head to Jl. Sudirman-<br>\nJl. Thamrin, Jl. Imam Bonjol, Jl. Diponegoro, Jl. Kramat Raya, <br>\nJl. Senen raya, Jl. Pejambon, Jl. Merdeka Timur (Gambir), Jl. <br>\nMerdeka Utara, Jl. Abdul Muis, Jl. Tanah Abang I, and finish at <br>\nCentral Jakarta mayor's office.<\/p>\n<p>Those from North Jakarta will go to Jl. Gatot Subroto, Jl. <br>\nM.T. Haryono, Jl. Ahmad Yani, Jl. Yos Sudarso, Jl. Enggano, <br>\nTanjung Priok bus terminal, Jl. Enggano, Jl. Sulawesi, Jl. Raya <br>\nCilincing, Jl. Jaya, Jl. Raya Cilincing, Jl. Yos Sudarso and <br>\nfinish in North Jakarta mayor's office.<\/p>\n<p>Participants from West Jakarta will head to Jl. Prof. Dr. <br>\nLatumenten, Jl. P. Tubagus Angke, Jl. Daan Mogot, Jl. Kedoya <br>\nRaya, Jl. Panjang, Jl. Lapangan Bola, Jl. Maruya Ilir, Jl. <br>\nPesanggrahan, Jl. Puri Indah, and finish in West Jakarta mayor's  <br>\noffice.<\/p>\n<p>Those from South Jakarta will continue their carnival to Jl. <br>\nSudirman, Jl. Sisingamangaraja, Jl. Panglima Polim, Jl. <br>\nFatmawati, Jl. TB Simatupang, Jl. Pangeran Antasari, Jl. <br>\nPrapanca, and will finish at South Jakarta mayor's office.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, participants from East Jakarta will head to Jl. <br>\nGatot Subroto, Jl. MT Haryono, Jl. Otista, Jl. Matraman, Jl. <br>\nPramuka, Jl. Pemuda, Jl. Raya Bekasi, Jl. I. Gusti Ngurah Rai, <br>\nJl. Pndok Kopi, and finish at East Jakarta mayor's office.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, KPU Jakarta chairman Muhamad Taufik said that after <br>\nthe joint carnival, there would be 20 days of election. He said <br>\nthere would be no campaign on March 22 which would be a holiday <br>\nto commemorate the Hindu Day of Silence.<\/p>\n<p>He said his office had designed campaign schedule for each <br>\npolitical party. Hundreds of places have also been prepared for <br>\ncampaign areas.<\/p>\n<p>According to Taufik, each party had three times of campaign <br>\nopportunities during the campaign period. The campaign will be <br>\ncentered in five municipalities and Thousand Island regency.<\/p>\n<p>He added three to five political party organize election <br>\ncampaigns in a day. \"We have arranged the campaign schedule in <br>\nsuch a way so that there would be no clashes among supporters <br>\nfrom different political parties,\" he said.<\/p>",
