Caltex Riau on high alert<\/p>\n
PEKANBARU, Riau: PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia was heavily
\nguarded on Friday following violence between security personnel
\nand student protesters on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Antara said that security personnel were seen guarding the
\ncompany's main entrance. It also said that a number of barbed
\nwire barricades were also erected near the gate.<\/p>\n
At least 10 students were injured when police broke up a sit-
\nin at the office of PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia in Rumbai, some
\n10 kilometers north of here.<\/p>\n
Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the
\nstudents, who had torn down the gate in front of the office
\nbuilding of the country's largest private oil company. Officers
\nfrom the National Police's Mobile Brigade unit also used rattan
\nbatons to break up the rally.<\/p>\n
No arrests have been reported following the demonstration.
