        "content": "<p>Calm back in Sampang<\/p>\n<p>SURABAYA: Calm returned to Sampang on Madura island off East<br>\nJava on Thursday after local leaders agreed to postpone the<br>\ninauguration of reelected regent Fadhilah Budiono.<\/p>\n<p>Government offices reopened after being closed since Monday.<br>\nSchool activities, however, remained at a standstill.<\/p>\n<p>The crowd who had for days gathered at the National Awakening<br>\nParty (PKB) chapter office on Jl. Pahlawan, dispersed themselves<br>\npeacefully.<\/p>\n<p>The PKB's East Java chapter chairman Choirul Anam hailed the<br>\nreturn of peace in Sampang.<\/p>\n<p>\"We should find a solution which could be accepted by the two<br>\nwarring camps,\" Anam told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n<p>Angry mobs set Sampang Council office on fire on Wednesday to<br>\nprotest the reelection of Fadhilah, a police colonel, in July.<br>\nSupported by the United Development Party and the Indonesian<br>\nMilitary (TNI)\/Police factions, Fadhilah secured 23 votes to beat<br>\nthe PKB candidate by just one ballot.
