Calls for war on drugs, gambling<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Central Jakarta Mayor Andi Subur Abdullah on
\nFriday called all local ulemas, community leaders and residents
\nto stand up against drug dealers and gambling operators in their
\nrespective communities.<\/p>\n
\"If you find any activities concerning drug distribution or
\ngambling activities, such as people selling toto-gelap (togel)
\ngambling coupons in your residential areas... don't hesitate to
\nimmediately report it to subdistrict officials or police,\" Andi
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\"If they (the suspects) outnumber you, you all may raid the
\nplace, but remember not to take the law into your own hands,\" the
\nmayor said during a Friday prayer at Petojo Selatan.<\/p>\n
A popular gambling activity here is called judi buntut, togel,
\nor toto gelap, which is a bet based on four numbers released
\nevery two or three days by dozens of gambling operators.<\/p>\n
Andi said several areas in Central Jakarta had been detected
\nas drug distribution centers, such as in Kampung Bali subdistrict
\nin Tanah Abang.<\/p>\n
The mayor also said his men would also question \"black kin
\nforeigners\", who reportedly owned a motel and restaurant on Jl.
\nKebon Kacang I in Tanah Abang area.<\/p>\n
\"Expatriates are not allowed to run a hotel or restaurant
\nbusiness. But we will check on it further,\" Andi said. (edt)<\/p>",
