Call for subways<\/p>\n

I live in Bekasi and travel every day to Jl. Sudirman in
\nJakarta. I am compelled to "enjoy" traffic jams which become
\nworse by the day, in the morning as well in evening.<\/p>\n
I think the cause of the congestion is the volume of vehicles
\non the roads, which is not in keeping with the extension of the
\nroad network and the concept of housing development.<\/p>\n
The government is endeavoring to overcome the problems of
\ntraffic congestion by plans for overpasses, subways and a three-
\ntiered system consisting of an elevated railway, tollway and
\nartery road. However, the plan for a subway and three-leveled
\nsystem is more concentrated in the south-north direction (Cinere-
\ndowntown Jakarta, Block M-downtown Jakarta), while residential
\nareas developed by the government are in the east (Bekasi) and
\nthe west (Tangerang).<\/p>\n
We can see that the roads bearing the brunt of congestion are
\nfrom Bekasi and Tangerang to Jakarta and vice versa. Indeed toll
\nroads have been built, but they are inadequate to cope with the
\nsituation.<\/p>\n
The government in cooperation with the private sector should
\nthink of the construction of subways and three-tiered systems
\nfrom Bekasi and Tangerang to Jakarta. A giant project requiring
\nhuge investment indeed, but it would be highly beneficial to all
\nbecause it would ease traffic congestion.<\/p>\n
