Call for integrated transport in Bogor<\/p>\n
BOGOR (JP): A transportation consultant has suggested that
\nBogor have an integrated road and railway service linking it with
\nsurrounding areas in West Java.<\/p>\n
Purnomosidi, speaking at a seminar on transportation in Bogor
\nThursday, said improvement was needed because of the traffic
\nconditions in areas bordering Jakarta.<\/p>\n
In these areas where commuting dominated traffic, he cited
\ntraffic jams around intersections, the condition of entrances and
\nexits around housing areas, and plans such as the new town in
\nJonggol.<\/p>\n
Transportation systems in Bogor should take into account that
\nthe area has four different areas, he said.<\/p>\n
These include the Bogor township itself; the area's buffer
\nzone with Jakarta, its rural areas and areas bordering other
\nsites in West Java.<\/p>\n
Among several new facilities, "Bogor should also have elevated
\nrailways and subways," Purnomosidi said.<\/p>\n
As many as 100 participants, all government officials, joined
\nthe seminar which was held in Cibinong.<\/p>\n
He also said alternative toll roads were needed to link
\nBekasi, Cibinong to Tangerang, and another one linking Bogor,
\nParung Panjang and Serpong.<\/p>\n
Currently, the Bogor and Depok train routes have 74 trains
\ndeparting from eight stations. From Bogor, an average 30,000
\npassengers travel daily.<\/p>\n
Purnomosidi cited studies which said in 1994, 125,902 people
\ntraveled daily from the west to east parts around Bogor.<\/p>\n
He estimated if there were an elevated railway or subway in 12
\nmore years, or in 2009, 81 percent of 281,231 people could be
\naccommodated.<\/p>\n
Routes<\/p>\n
The state-owned railway company Perum Perumka said passengers
\non Greater Jakarta routes accounted for only 270,000 people
\ncompared to an estimated five million commuters.<\/p>\n
In April, additional trains will include an electric train
\nrunning the Jakarta-Serpong route, the spokesman, Bambang
\nWalujodjati said, Antara reported Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The new facility would be among a new set of trains received
\nby Perumka each month from the train factory, INKA, in Madiun,
\nEast Java.<\/p>\n
Bambang said Perumka had ordered 25 train sets or 100 cars
\nfrom INKA last September.<\/p>\n
He added when completed, apart from the Jakarta-Serpong route,
\n70 percent would operate through Jakarta-Depok-Bogor, and 30
\npercent would travel the Jakarta-Bekasi route.<\/p>\n
Greater Jakarta now has 226 train departures; 42 for Jakarta-
\nDepok, 97 for Bogor-Jakarta; 31 for Jakarta-Serpong, 48 for
\nJakarta-Bekasi and 10 for Jakarta-Tangerang.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile the Director General of Land Transport Santo Budiono
\nsaid Greater Jakarta trains were running on losses of Rp 17
\nbillion per year.<\/p>\n
"Perumka is subsidizing third class passengers at Rp 175
\npassengers per day," Santo said.<\/p>\n
Other losses include 50 smashed windows a day, he said, caused
\nby students throwing stones at other students.<\/p>\n
So far income from Greater Jakarta routes stand at Rp 3.5
