C. Java locals entertain 'Queen'<\/p>\n
SEMARANG, Central Java: Residents of the Tembalang subdistrict
\nbelieve the Javanese mythical Ratu Kidul (Queen of the Southern
\nSeas) is in town.<\/p>\n
Word has it that the queen has been roaming the village in
\nsearch of her missing selendang, a shawl worn over the shoulders,
\nAntara reported.<\/p>\n
Residents decorated their houses with colorful plastic bags
\ncontaining water hung on the front door for the queen to drink
\nwhenever she is thirsty.<\/p>\n
"Water is the only thing we can offer," said a resident who
\nhung nine red, green and yellow plastic bags of water on his
\nfront door.<\/p>\n
But another version of the story has it that in fact the
\nplastic bags are meant to ward off the queen so that she will not
\nintimidate residents.<\/p>\n
It is unclear who started the rumors on the presence of the
\nqueen who is portrayed in Javanese mythology as "very beautiful
\nand gracious."<\/p>",
