Java councillors to be isolated prior to election<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Three weeks prior to the gubernatorial election in the Central<br>\nJava province, councillors are considering isolating themselves<br>\nbefore casting their vote to avoid the possibility of money<br>\npolitics and intimidation.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Soejatno SW, chairman of Golkar Party faction, and<br>\ndeputy of the United Development Party (PPP) faction Daromi<br>\nIrdjas said on Friday that they supported the idea.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I support the councillors&apos; isolation as long as we&apos;re not<br>\nisolated by our party but by the gubernatorial election<br>\ncommittee,&quot; said Soejatno, who is also a member of the committee.<\/p>\n<p>The election will take place on July 24.<\/p>\n<p>Daromi agreed, saying that each councillor has his or her own<br>\naspiration in voting for governor and deputy governor.<\/p>\n<p>Daromi, who is also chairman of the Central Java Council&apos;s<br>\nCommission A overseeing government affairs, said that each<br>\ncouncillor had to anticipate the possibility of both physical and<br>\npsychological intimidation.<\/p>\n<p>He said, as quoted by Antara, that isolating councillors prior<br>\nto the gubernatorial election would not be necessary in normal<br>\ncircumstances.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, 38 councillors in East Nusa Tenggara province were<br>\nalso put up in several star-rated hotels three days prior to the<br>\ngubernatorial election. They claimed that the purpose was &quot;to<br>\nmake communication and consolidation easier&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>Incumbent governor Mardiyanto is among the 17 Central Java<br>\ngubernatorial candidates along with former Semarang mayor<br>\nSoetrisno Suharto and incumbent council speaker Mardijo who is<br>\nalso chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI<br>\nPerjuangan) faction.<\/p>\n<p>Soejatno said that the coalition of the four factions of<br>\nGolkar, National Awakening Party (PKB), National Mandate Party<br>\n(PAN) and the Indonesian Military\/National Police remained solid<br>\nalthough each had different candidates.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I&apos;m sure that the coalition will still vote for Mardiyanto.<br>\nAs for his deputy, we&apos;ll talk about that later,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Golkar has nominated two pairs of candidates: Mardiyanto and<br>\nSoendoro; and Soetrisno Suharto and Soendoro; while PKB nominated<br>\nMardiyanto and Ali Mufiz; and FAN nominated HS Kirbiantoro and<br>\nMarjani Danu Prawiro.<\/p>\n<p>Soejatno refuted the news that the coalition had broken down<br>\ndue to differences in naming candidates.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Let&apos;s wait until election day.
