Yusril and terrorism<\/p>\n

The police have arrested 16 mosque activists allegedly
\ninvolved in a terrorist network responsible for the fatal bomb
\nblast at JW Marriott Hotel.<\/p>\n
While receiving praise for their achievement, the police have
\nalso been criticized over the way these arrests have been made.
\nIronically, Minister of Justice and Human Rights Yusril Ihza
\nMahendra has questioned the legal process involved in these
\narrests.<\/p>\n
Clearly, there are two major camps regarding the eradication
\nof terrorism in Indonesia. A debate is now afoot on whether or
\nnot the national intelligence agency (BIN) should be allowed
\ngreater authority in dealing with terrorism. In this case,
\nMinister Yusril has sided with those opposing further empowerment
\nof BIN.<\/p>\n
In this context, we must all set aside narrow-minded interests
\nand prioritize the interests of the state and the nation. The
\nMinistry of Justice and Human Rights must help empower BIN by
\nagreeing to allow it greater authority to deal with terrorism.<\/p>\n
We need a legal umbrella for our intelligence authorities to
\nbe able to deal properly with terrorism for the sake of the state
\nand the nation. Otherwise, terrorists will enjoy great freedom to
\ncarry out acts of terrorism all over the country.<\/p>\n
