        "content": "<p>Yogya receives environmental award<\/p>\n<p>YOGYAKARTA: The International Council for Local Environmental<br>\nInitiatives (ICLEI), a Canada-based environmental organization,<br>\nrecently awarded the Cities for Climate Protection Campaign<br>\nMilestone Award to the Yogyakarta municipal government for its<br>\nachievement in preserving the environment.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the city's environmental effect research and<br>\nmonitoring agency Pieter Lawueasal said that the award had been<br>\ngiven for the city's success in decreasing motor vehicle gas<br>\nemissions and electricity use and for establishing an urban<br>\nforest.<\/p>\n<p>\"We succeeded in decreasing gas emissions by five<br>\npercent from 2001 to 2003 and electricity consumption by 40<br>\npercent over the same period,\" Pieter said.<\/p>\n<p>Peter also said that Yogyakarta had been selected from<br>\n17 other cities in the world. Presentation of the<br>\naward was made in the Philippines recently. -- JP<\/p>",
