        "content": "<p>Buyers urge developer to return their money<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): About 200 buyers upset by allegedly being<br>\ncheated by a housing developer again went to the office of the<br>\nstate minister of public housing yesterday, asking the minister<br>\nto insist that the developer return their down payments.<\/p>\n<p>The people asked minister Akbar Tandjung to demand that<br>\nexecutives of PT Jasana Pembara return their money since<br>\nconstruction had not started on their houses in Lembah Calincing<br>\nhousing complex in Cogreg village, Parung.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters, representing 5,000 buyers, said they wanted<br>\ntheir money back plus 8 percent interest as promised by the<br>\ndeveloper.<\/p>\n<p>Mozart, a resident of Tanjung Duren in West Jakarta, said he<br>\nhad paid Rp 3 million (US$1,176) for a 36-square-meter house on a<br>\n96-square-meter plot in 1994.<\/p>\n<p>He said at least five people paid the same amount to the<br>\ndeveloper&apos;s office in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Another customer, Suwandi, said he thought the developer would<br>\nnot cheat customers because he had checked the company&apos;s<br>\ncredibility before deciding to buy.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The developer was registered with the Indonesian Real Estate<br>\nAssociation. I checked the location in Bogor and I found that it<br>\nbelonged to the company. Worst, the groundbreaking ceremony was<br>\ninaugurated by the minister of public housing,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, minister Akbar Tanjung asked the buyers to be<br>\npatient, saying their problem would be handled properly.<\/p>\n<p>Akbar said the problem would be settled either by the return<br>\nof payments or continuing the construction of the housing<br>\ncomplex.<\/p>\n<p>A ministry staffer, Suharto, said he had suggested that two<br>\nother developers take over the housing complex.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The new developers have visited the location of the housing<br>\ncomplex. But they have yet to decide on whether to take over the<br>\nhousing complex,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The customers said they would agree to the housing complex<br>\nbeing taken over by other developers.<\/p>\n<p>But they said they would not pay extra for the houses.
