Busway more harm than good<\/p>\n

Jakarta's current busway and the three-in-one traffic rule
\nshould be reviewed before the planned Pulo Gadung to Kalideres
\nbusway route is implemented, because both have done more harm
\nthan good.<\/p>\n
Reducing the width of already-packed roads by introducing
\nbusway transport is, in my view, an egoistic policy. With three
\nlanes in a muddle and another almost vacant, the traffic jams
\nthat plague ordinary people will not be relieved.<\/p>\n
The provincial administration should learn from previous
\nfailures in operating seat-only express, air-conditioned and
\nmorning\/afternoon buses, while taking action against buses that
\nbelch pollution and are overcrowded.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, alternative roads become highly congested,
\nparticularly during peak hours, causing a waste of fuel and time.
\nThe monorail system will be a better solution, provided the fares
\nare reasonable.<\/p>\n
Monorail construction, however, should proceed at night so as
\nnot to disrupt traffic, and be completed without delay. The
\nbenefits of monorail transport will be greater than those hoped
\nfor from the busway and three-in-one combined.<\/p>\n
