Busway and traffic congestion<\/p>\n

For the new Blok M to Kota Trans-Jakarta Busway system, the
\ncity administration has stipulated that the ban on private cars
\ncarrying fewer than three passengers now covers more streets and
\nis effective for longer hours.<\/p>\n
With this new stipulation, the ban is now also in effect along
\nGajah Mada and Hayam Wuruk streets between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. and
\nbetween 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.<\/p>\n
During those hours, it is quite difficult for lone car drivers
\nto get to Glodok, Harco or Pancoran shopping centers, for
\nexample, because alternative roads leading to Gajah Mada and
\nHayam Wuruk streets are usually too narrow.<\/p>\n
High-ranking government officials, like Governor Sutiyoso
\nhimself, for example, may not have this trouble as they have
\ntheir chauffeurs and adjutants -- thus assuring them that they
\nwill always have a sufficient number of passengers.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, I am curious to find out whether a feasibility
\nstudy on this busway project can prove that the project will
\novercome the problem of traffic congestion in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
