Bustanil facing corruption case<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: After being questioned for almost nine hours, the former
\nhead of the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) Bustanil Arifin, called
\nit quits and asked police to postpone his questioning on Tuesday
\nbecause he was too sick to continue the investigation, his lawyer
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Bustanil's request was granted by the officers and will
\ncontinue Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Dewi Kani, a lawyer representing Bustanil, one of former
\npresident Soeharto's close aides, told reporters at the Jakarta
\nPolice headquarters that her client was old and often forgot
\nthings in the past.<\/p>\n
The lawyer argued that Bustanil was too weak and easily got
\ntired due to his recent heart surgery and diabetes.<\/p>\n
\"Pak Bustanil is too old, he is often sick and often forgets
\nthings,\" Dewi claimed. \"Medical tests also show that his brain
\nability is decreasing.\"<\/p>\n
Bustanil was questioned as a suspect in relation to a police
\ninvestigation in a case involving an inordinate price mark-up for
\nland purchase in 1990 at the Cooperative Ministry.<\/p>\n
At that time, Bulog disbursed Rp 10 billion -- approved by
\nBustanil -- for the cooperative to buy a plot of land in
\nKuningan, South Jakarta with a market price of Rp 1.8 billion.
\nThe land belonged to the second eldest son of former president
\nSoeharto, Bambang Trihatmodjo.<\/p>\n
In addition to Bustanil, former cooperative minister Subiyakto
\nTjakrawerdaya has also been questioned in the case. --JP<\/p>",
