        "content": "<p>Businessman reports graft in Supreme Court<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The government-sanctioned National Ombudsman<br>\nCouncil received on Thursday a complaint of corruption in the<br>\nSupreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Businessman Djohan Taniwidjaya lodged a complaint with the<br>\ncouncil alleging a substitute registrar at the Supreme Court in<br>\nAugust 1999 had asked him for a Rp 200 million payoff if he<br>\nwanted to win his land dispute case.<\/p>\n<p>Djohan claimed the registrar told him the money would be given<br>\nto several justices.<\/p>\n<p>According to Djohan, the female registrar gave him a time<br>\nlimit of about one month to deliver the money, after she returned<br>\nfrom visiting her children who were studying overseas.<\/p>\n<p>However, he said the offer was later taken back after the<br>\nother party in the case made a larger payoff.<\/p>\n<p>The registrar then suggested Djohan negotiate a new price with<br>\nthe justices.<\/p>\n<p>Djohan claimed he had raised this matter with Supreme Court<br>\nsecretary-general Pranowo late last year, but had not received a<br>\nsatisfactory response.<\/p>\n<p>Djohan was received on Thursday by council chairman Antonius<br>\nSujata and council member Teten Masduki, who is also chairman of<br>\nthe Indonesian Corruption Watch.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will soon establish a special team to examine this report,<br>\nclarify it with the Supreme Court and after that submit this<br>\nmatter to the National Police to take further action,\"<br>\nAntonius told journalists at the council's headquarters in Graha<br>\nMustika Ratu, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The council, which began its work last month, has received<br>\nsome 300 complaints, most dealing with land disputes.(01)<\/p>",
