JAKARTA \u2014 The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming\/Investment\nCoordinating Board (BKPM) and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and\nIndustry (Kadin) are set to discuss allegations of extortion involving\ndemands for project shares from investors, reportedly carried out by\ncertain Kadin Cilegon officials.<\/p>\n
The meeting between the two parties was scheduled to take place at\nthe BKPM Building in South Jakarta on Wednesday (14\/5\/2025). The project\nin question is the construction of a chlor-alkali ethylene dichloride\n(CA-EDC) chemical plant belonging to Chandra Asri Group.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe meeting is today. We are holding a meeting at BKPM to invite the\nrelevant parties,\u201d said Kadin Indonesia Deputy Chairman Andi Yuslim\nPatawari.<\/p>\n
Kadin Launches Investigation<\/p>\n
Andi explained that Kadin Indonesia is conducting an investigation\nfollowing reports of the extortion that surfaced on social media. He\nassured that the matter would be handled thoroughly.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of our concerns is the conflict in Cilegon, where people are\nacting in Kadin\u2019s name \u2014 we must resolve this. If we don\u2019t take action,\nwe risk giving the impression that thuggery is more powerful,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Investor Confidence Could Decline<\/p>\n
He expressed regret over the practice of demanding project shares\nunder Kadin Indonesia\u2019s name. According to him, such thuggery only\nserves to erode investor confidence.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe deeply regret this. Investment trust and investors could be lost\nas a result. We must not let Vietnam and Thailand take advantage of\nthis.
