Businessman denies mastermind role in robbery<\/p>\n
BOGOR (JP): A businessman has denied any involvement in a
\nrobbery last Oct. 11 on the Jagorawi toll road in which one of
\nhis associates was shot.<\/p>\n
The police detained Idfiel Jaya Anwar, 36, in December for
\nbeing the mastermind behind the theft of Rp 312 million and the
\nmurder of Zaenuddin Lesmana.<\/p>\n
He was released in April by the Cibinong prosecutor's office
\nwhen another defendant, Erling Doly Wijaya alias Mikel, withdrew
\nhis statement that Idfiel had ordered the robbery and murder.<\/p>\n
Idfiel, the victim and five defendants were involved in land
\nappropriation for a project in Jonggol.<\/p>\n
Idfiel; a forensic expert; an employee of the toll road
\nmanagement company, PT Jasa Marga; and another land broker gave
\nevidence in the case Wednesday at the Bogor District Court.<\/p>\n
He told the court, "I never told Mikel or anyone else to do
\nthe robbery. I didn't even know that Zaenuddin was withdrawing
\nthe money (from the state-owned BRI bank in Bogor) that day."<\/p>\n
Idfiel said he was introduced to the victim by a business
\npartner, H. Zaini, in August 1994. Idfiel said he then joined
\nZaini and Zaenuddin, and another man, Zainal Abidin, in
\nappropriating land for the state-owned Perum Perumnas housing
\ncompany.<\/p>\n
The unnamed business alliance decided that Idfiel and Zainal
\nwould be responsible for raising the funds, Zaini would act as
\noperations director while Zaenuddin would be the treasurer.<\/p>\n
Idfiel also refuted the testimonies of earlier witnesses
\nincluding Diar, one of his employees.<\/p>\n
Diar had said she was ordered by Idfiel to tell Mikel to
\nchange his appearance and stay away from Bogor shortly after
\nZaenuddin's death.<\/p>\n
"On the contrary I ordered that Mikel should come immediately
\nto Bogor," Idfiel said, adding this was because police were
\ninterrogating him as a suspect and other people close to him.<\/p>\n
