Businesses told to pay THR<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): The Tangerang administration has threatened to
\nprosecute any businesspeople who refuse to pay holiday bonuses
\n(THR) to their workers, an official said on Monday.<\/p>\n
"It's against the law to avoid paying bonuses," the head of
\nthe Ministry of Manpower's Tangerang office, Apon Suryana, said.<\/p>\n
Apon was referring to Ministry of Manpower Regulation No.
\n4\/1994, which regulates a Rp 100,000 (US$ 14.30) fine or three
\nmonths imprisonment for any violations.<\/p>\n
"My office will concentrate on imposing the three-month jail
\nterm because we consider the fine inadequate," Apon said.<\/p>\n
He said businesspeople frequently claimed their companies were
\nlosing money or were on the brink of bankruptcy.<\/p>\n
"We will perform financial audits on companies using public
\naccountants to discover the companies' real condition," Apon
\nsaid, adding that his office would close down any bankrupt
\ncompanies.<\/p>\n
The Tangerang Council is backing the office's stance in
\nfighting for the workers' right to receive bonuses.<\/p>\n
"The council has to pay attention to both businesspeople and
\nworkers. But in this case, we must defend the workers," said
\ncouncil deputy speaker Achmadun Mooduto. (05\/41)<\/p>",
