Business Partner Cities to hold 12th meeting<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Representatives of 11 cities grouped in the
\nBusiness Partner Cities (BPC) organization will hold their 12th
\nannual round table, seminars and trade fair here on Oct. 21 and
\nOct. 22.<\/p>\n
The Jakarta Chapter of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and
\nIndustry (Kadin Jaya) will host the meeting.<\/p>\n
Kadin Jaya's foreign trade department chairman Andi Pancha,
\nwho also chairs the organizing committee, said the meeting and
\nseminars would be used by delegations to exchange information on
\nthe economy, industry, infrastructure and other aspect's of life
\nin their cities.<\/p>\n
It will also be used to enhance business ties between the 11
\ncities. The trade fair, IndoExpo'98, will be used to promote each
\ncity's businesses and companies.<\/p>\n
"Among topics to be discussed at the round table and seminars
\nis Asia-Pacific region business and investment prospects in the
\naftermath of the monetary crisis," Andi said after briefing
\nforeign ambassadors and the representatives of foreign embassies
\nabout the event.<\/p>\n
Andi also said that questions over security remained a major
\ndeterrent to foreign investors considering a return to the
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
"People are concerned about whether Jakarta will be safe in
\nOctober, but we will show them that their safety is guaranteed
\nhere so that we can restore the country's image," he said. "Now
\nis an appropriate time to show them that our economy is starting
\nto recover."<\/p>\n
BPC, established in Osaka in 1986, groups the business cities
\nof Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Jakarta,
\nSeoul, Ho Chi Minh City, Shanghai, Bombay and Osaka.<\/p>\n
It was established to create a strong business network between
\nthe cities.<\/p>\n
Andi said that at least 34 companies would join the trade
\nfair. The companies are involved in the production of yarn,
\ntextiles and textile products, clothing, paper and paper
\nproducts, home and office furniture, footwear, cosmetics,
\nglassware, chemical products, heavy equipment, agricultural
\ncommodities, food and beverages, and handicrafts. (gis)<\/p>",
