Business confidence weakens due to terror<\/p>\n

The upward trend in business confidence in the country was
\nhalted in August and September due to the impact of the Marriott
\nHotel bombing, the Danareksa Research Institute said in its
\nregular survey on Friday.<\/p>\n
The business sentiment index (BSI) during the two months stood
\nstill at 110.6, defying the previous trend which saw the index
\nrising until July, the survey said.<\/p>\n
\"Businesspeople are now monitoring cautiously the aftermath of
\nthe atrocity, notably the government's policy response to the
\nterrorist assault on Indonesia's soil,\" it said.<\/p>\n
It added that the attacks interrupted the upward course of
\nmomentum that had begun at the start of the second half of the
\nyear following a slump in the previous nine months.<\/p>\n
The bombing took place on Aug. 5 and left more than 10 people
\ndead, while also prompting concerns among many that it would slow
\nthe pace of the country's economic recovery.<\/p>\n
Danareksa added, however, that a halt to the upward move of
\nthe BSI did not necessarily mean a loss of business confidence.
\n\"The blast neither shattered Indonesia's economic fundamentals
\nnor narrowed the nation's recovery prospects.\"<\/p>\n
The survey showed that confidence in economic recovery in the
\nlast quarter of the year and first quarter of next year remained
\nstrong, and had even strengthened.<\/p>\n
Business momentum remains because of the police's quick
\nresponse to the tragedy, helping to prevent a collapse of
\nsentiment, the survey said.<\/p>\n
The survey questioned more than 700 chief executives or
\ndirectors representing a wide variety of leading companies in
\nvarious sectors, namely construction, agriculture, finance,
\ntransportation and communications, manufacturing, hotel and
\nrestaurant services, and others.<\/p>\n
The survey is designed to measure the CEOs' assessments of the
\ncurrent economy and business conditions, and their expectations
\nfor the next six months.<\/p>",
