        "content": "<p>Business confidence weakens due to terror<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The upward trend in business confidence in the country was<br>\nhalted in August and September due to the impact of the Marriott<br>\nHotel bombing, the Danareksa Research Institute said in its<br>\nregular survey on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The business sentiment index (BSI) during the two months stood<br>\nstill at 110.6, defying the previous trend which saw the index<br>\nrising until July, the survey said.<\/p>\n<p>\"Businesspeople are now monitoring cautiously the aftermath of<br>\nthe atrocity, notably the government's policy response to the<br>\nterrorist assault on Indonesia's soil,\" it said.<\/p>\n<p>It added that the attacks interrupted the upward course of<br>\nmomentum that had begun at the start of the second half of the<br>\nyear following a slump in the previous nine months.<\/p>\n<p>The bombing took place on Aug. 5 and left more than 10 people<br>\ndead, while also prompting concerns among many that it would slow<br>\nthe pace of the country's economic recovery.<\/p>\n<p>Danareksa added, however, that a halt to the upward move of<br>\nthe BSI did not necessarily mean a loss of business confidence.<br>\n\"The blast neither shattered Indonesia's economic fundamentals<br>\nnor narrowed the nation's recovery prospects.\"<\/p>\n<p>The survey showed that confidence in economic recovery in the<br>\nlast quarter of the year and first quarter of next year remained<br>\nstrong, and had even strengthened.<\/p>\n<p>Business momentum remains because of the police's quick<br>\nresponse to the tragedy, helping to prevent a collapse of<br>\nsentiment, the survey said.<\/p>\n<p>The survey questioned more than 700 chief executives or<br>\ndirectors representing a wide variety of leading companies in<br>\nvarious sectors, namely construction, agriculture, finance,<br>\ntransportation and communications, manufacturing, hotel and<br>\nrestaurant services, and others.<\/p>\n<p>The survey is designed to measure the CEOs' assessments of the<br>\ncurrent economy and business conditions, and their expectations<br>\nfor the next six months.<\/p>",
