        "content": "<p>Business as usual for DHL courier company in Indonesia<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Courier company DHL Worldwide Express is<br>\nmaintaining operations in Indonesia, despite the deteriorating<br>\npolitical situation, the company said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Fitzpatrick, senior technical advisor of PT Birotika<br>\nSemesta, a local DHL partner, said in a statement that the<br>\ncompany continued to accept all requests to deliver packages and<br>\ndocuments, despite the difficulties posed by last weeks rioting<br>\nand looting.<\/p>\n<p>\"DHL is the only air express company which remained fully<br>\noperational in Indonesia throughout the period,\" Fitzpatrick<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>He said the crisis had delayed the shipment of several<br>\npackages, but thus far delays were only minor.<\/p>\n<p>\"We remain committed to our role as a trade facilitator in<br>\ngood and bad times,\" Fitzpatrick said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that company expatriate staff had decided to remain in<br>\nthe country, adding that all branch offices nationwide remained<br>\nopen and operational and no DHL vehicles had been taken off the<br>\nroad.<\/p>\n<p>Birotika Semesta\/DHL, a subsidiary of the giant U.S. courier<br>\ncompany DHL Worldwide Express, started operating in Indonesia in<br>\n1979.<\/p>\n<p>It currently leads the domestic courier industry with a<br>\nnetwork of 65 branch offices. It employs more than 800 people and<br>\nhas 250 vehicles at its disposal throughout the country.<\/p>\n<p>Fitzpatrick said all company employees would do their best to<br>\nminimize any disruption to services during the current political<br>\nturmoil.<\/p>\n<p>He said that when the city was gripped by riots last Thursday,<br>\nmany company employees stayed overnight in the office or in<br>\nnearby hotels to ensure round-the-clock operations were<br>\nmaintained.<\/p>\n<p>\"Obviously, we are very anxious to ensure the safety and<br>\nsecurity of our staff when carrying out their jobs.
