Busang gold deposit<\/p>\n
A statement which appeared in the April 1, 1997 Business
\nsection of The Jakarta Post and which was apparently picked up
\nfrom the Associated Press news wire in Toronto has been
\nincorrectly attributed to Graeme Currie of Canaccord Capital
\nCorporation of Vancouver.<\/p>\n
The statement reads as follows: \"TORONTO (AP): Dozens of
\nmining companies including Vancouver-based Placer Dome Inc. and
\nBarrick Gold Corp. of Toronto will likely halt their mineral
\nexploration programs in Indonesia until they get final approval,
\nsays an executive mining firm.<\/p>\n
Graeme Currie of Canaccord in Vancouver said that the measure
\nwould be made after the Indonesian government decided not to
\ngrant any mining contracts to Bre-X until the size of its Busang
\ngold deposit is clearly determined.\"<\/p>\n
Canaccord and Mr. Currie each deny making the statement and
\nfeel that whatever was stated by Mr. Currie has been
\nmisinterpreted. Mr. Currie's response when asked about the
\nintentions of Barrick and Placer, was to refer the journalist to
\nthe management of those companies.<\/p>\n
Otherwise Mr. Currie's remarks on the subject are limited to
\nthose contained in the Canaccord Daily Letter of March 27 and
\nMarch 31, 1997, copies of which are enclosed.<\/p>\n
