Bus owners protest over bus seizure<\/p>\n
CIREBON: Hundreds of bus owners grouped under the West Java and
\nCentral Java Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda)
\ndemanded on Thursday the release of 117 buses currently impounded
\nby the Jakarta office of the Ministry of Transportation,
\napparently without good reason.<\/p>\n
In a media conference on Thursday, spokesman of the protesting
\nbus owners Iskandar Agus Banadji said that they demanded Jakarta
\nGovernor Sutiyoso immediately release the buses, which were
\nseized last month.<\/p>\n
\"We will report the case to Jakarta provincial legislative
\ncouncil and other government institutions, should the governor
\nallow the impoundment of those buses to continue,\" Iskandar said.<\/p>\n
He claimed that the intercity buses were impounded without
\ngood reason and the Jakarta administration had sought a \"ransom
\npayment\" for their release.<\/p>\n
\"For each bus, they sought Rp 1.5 million to Rp 5 million in
\n'compensation money',\" Iskandar charged, adding that a bus
\ncompany suffered Rp 500,000 in losses per bus per day due to the
\nimpoundment.<\/p>\n
The bus owners threatened to stage a protest, along with the
\ncrews, at the Jakarta administration if their demands were
