Bus crews protest frequent attacks<\/p>\n
BANDUNG: About 300 people working on buses operating along the
\nnorthern coastal road of West Java rallied at the provincial
\ncouncil building on Jl. Diponegoro on Monday to protest frequent
\nviolence against them during their trips.<\/p>\n
The group demanded that the police protect them because mobs
\nhad burned at least four buses in the past two months.<\/p>\n
\"Police must protect us from those angry mobs,\" Ahmad, a
\ndriver, said. The bus crews were accompanied by bus owners and
\nchairman of the Organization of Land Transportation Owners
\n(Organda).<\/p>\n
Councillor Ali Hasan, however, reminded the bus crews to be
\ncareful when driving as locals had become upset about the
\nfrequent traffic accidents caused by reckless driving.<\/p>\n
The northern coastal road, called Pantura, is known as a
\ndangerous route as many traffic accidents take place there.
