Perum Bulog has noted that government rice reserves have reached\ntheir highest level in several years. By May 2026, rice stocks stored in\nBulog warehouses nationwide had reached 5.39 million tonnes, reflecting\nstronger absorption of domestic production.<\/p>\n
\u2018We report Bulog\u2019s rice stock in warehouses nationwide totals 5.37\nmillion tonnes, or even now 5.39 million tonnes,\u2019 said Ahmad Rizal\nRamdhani, President Director of Perum Bulog, when asked on Friday, 22\nMay.<\/p>\n
He said the rise in rice reserves aligns with the government\u2019s aim of\nsustainable food self-sufficiency as directed by the President. He noted\nthat the achievement in 2025 would provide a basis for the government to\nmaintain a similar situation in the following year.<\/p>\n
\u2018In 2025 we already had food self-sufficiency; with current\nprojections by May we have reached 5.39 million tonnes. God willing, we\npredict that in 2026 we can also achieve food self-sufficiency,\u2019 he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
On the storage capacity side, the increase in rice stocks poses a\nchallenge to storage capacity. Bulog currently has warehouse capacity of\naround 4 million tonnes, while stocks stored have exceeded that\nbaseline. To overcome the space constraints, Bulog has rented additional\nwarehouses with a capacity around 2 million tonnes.<\/p>\n
\u2018Now our stock is 5.39 million tonnes. We have also rented around 2\nmillion tonnes. So there is about 600 thousand tonnes of space left,\u2019 he\nadded.<\/p>\n
Going forward, Bulog is preparing measures to anticipate by building\n100 new warehouse points across different regions of Indonesia. The\nconstruction prioritises the 3T areas \u2014 frontier, outermost, and\nisolated \u2014 as well as districts and cities that do not yet have Bulog\nwarehousing facilities.<\/p>\n
According to Rizal, building new warehouses is not only to increase\nstorage capacity but also to speed up the distribution of food logistics\nto the public.<\/p>\n
In addition to building new warehouses, Bulog also plans an\nadditional rental capacity of around 1 million tonnes to anticipate\npotential increases in national rice stocks.<\/p>\n
Moreover, Rizal assured that Bulog is preparing storage capacity up\nto around 7 million tonnes.<\/p>\n
