Indonesia's Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has announced that the government is prepared to export up to 500,000 tonnes of rice, starting with 200,000 tonnes to Malaysia, following a prior humanitarian shipment of 10,000 tonnes to Palestine. With a record-high 5 million tonnes of Government Rice Reserves (CBP) in Bulog warehouses, combined with other stocks and standing crops, the nation has sufficient supplies to meet consumption needs until April next year without imports. However, ongoing negotiations are stalled due to Malaysian importers offering prices below Rp 10,000 per kilogram, which is considered unfeasible as it would effectively subsidise foreign buyers.

KARAWANG, KOMPAS.com - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman
stated that the government is ready to export 500,000 tonnes of rice to
other countries.

Amran made the statement while inspecting the rice stocks at a Bulog
warehouse rented at JDP Karawang1 Logisticspark, Karawang, West Java, on
Thursday (23/4/2026).

With 5 million tonnes of Government Rice Reserves (CBP) in Bulog
warehouses, the government is ready to export 200,000 tonnes to
Malaysia.

“Now, next, we have negotiated through Bulog, hopefully 200,000
tonnes can be exported by us. Not just 200,000, even 500,000 can be
exported to countries in need,” said Amran on Thursday.

Amran explained that before the export negotiations to Malaysia, the
government had exported 10,000 tonnes of rice to Palestine as aid for
war victims.

Amran said that the 5 million tonnes of CBP stocks in Bulog
warehouses is the highest throughout Indonesia’s history.

With those CBP stocks, plus rice stocks in hotels, restaurants, and
cafes (Horeka) as well as households reaching 12.5 million tonnes, and
rice in fields ready for harvest (standing crop), the national rice
stocks can meet consumption needs until April next year without
imports.

“Insyaallah, 2026 no rice imports. Our reserves are the highest in
history in April,” said Amran.

However, the rice export is currently still in the negotiation stage
because the importers are bidding at a price that is too low.

“The price is not yet suitable, because if the quality is already
okay, there’s no problem,” said Rizal on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

According to Rizal, importers in Malaysia want to buy Bulog rice at a
price below Rp 10,000 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, the price of premium Bulog rice with 15 percent breakage
in the domestic market reaches around Rp 14,900 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, Stabilisation of Food Supply and Price (SPHP) rice in the
domestic market is sold at the highest retail price (HET) of Rp 12,500
per kilogram.

“It’s still not possible (to sell below Rp 10,000). If it’s that
price, it’s not possible. Why would we subsidise other countries, right?
It’s not possible,” said Rizal.
",
