Karawang, CNBC Indonesia - Perum Bulog will utilise old, unused\npackaging for the distribution of rice under food aid and the\nStabilisation of Food Supply and Price (SPHP) programme. This step is\ntaken to ensure that distribution is not hindered, while also optimising\nthe available stock of packaging, amid soaring prices of plastic\npellets.<\/p>\n
Bulog Procurement Director Prihasto Setyanto stated that the use of\nold packaging has received approval from the National Food Agency\n(Bapanas).<\/p>\n
\u201cIn accordance with instructions from the National Food Agency, we\nare allowed to use the leftover old packaging,\u201d Prihasto said when met\nin Karawang, West Java, on Thursday (23\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
He explained that the old packaging remains in large quantities and\nis ready to be used to accelerate distribution.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe leftover old packaging is still plentiful, the leftover old\npackaging. The old leftover packaging just needs to be labelled. The\nimportant thing is to use it immediately for distribution to the public,\nto stimulate the economy below. Distribute it immediately,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Because the distribution will temporarily use the leftover old\npackaging, Prihasto reminded that the expiry date label on the packaging\ndoes not reflect the contents of the rice. This is in line with the fact\nthat old packaging generally includes old dates, as it was produced in\n2023-2024.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut sometimes the old packaging, don\u2019t misunderstand, the old\npackaging sometimes\u2026 it\u2019s old packaging, packaging from 2023, 2024, it\u2019s\nold packaging, so the expired date is written as 2024. He assured that the distributed rice is still new, while the use of\nold packaging serves as a temporary solution amid packaging\nshortages.<\/p>\n

Bulog also emphasised that distribution must not be hindered merely\ndue to packaging issues, especially since stocks of old packaging are\nstill available in large quantities.<\/p>\n
