        "content": "<p>Medan (ANTARA) \u2013 Perum Bulog\u2019s Medan branch in North Sumatra is\nstepping up its procurement of freshly harvested paddy from farmers,\ndespite having exceeded its annual target, in an effort to strengthen\nfood reserves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are continuing to procure paddy from farmers in our area even\nthough we have already reached the annual target,\u201d Medan Bulog branch\nhead Lutfillah Barus said in Medan on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>He said procurement had reached 112 per cent, amounting to 34,696\ntonnes of paddy, equivalent to 17,348 tonnes of rice. The target was\n31,000 tonnes of paddy, or the equivalent of 15,500 tonnes of rice, as\nat 17 October 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Lutfillah said procurement from farmers would continue because\nharvesting was still under way in parts of the branch\u2019s area, including\nLangkat and Serdang Bedagai regencies.<\/p>\n<p>He said the procured paddy would be milled into rice to form part of\nthe government\u2019s food reserves and support various programmes, including\nthe Food Supply and Price Stabilisation programme (SPHP) and food\nassistance distributions to beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<p>As the government\u2019s food-sector implementing agency, Bulog procures\npaddy from farmers at the government purchase price (HPP) of Rp6,500 per\nkilogram.<\/p>\n<p>To maximise procurement through the end of the year, Bulog is also\ncontinuing outreach and strengthening cooperation with farmer group\nassociations (gapoktan), local governments and other relevant\nstakeholders.<\/p>",
