        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - State-owned company PT Perum Bulog is\nreportedly exploring the purchase of plastic bags for rice from\nproducers in Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>Special Staff to the Minister of Agriculture for Government Policy,\nSam Herodian, stated that his team, along with Bulog\u2019s leadership,\nrecently explored rice exports to Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was attended by Malaysian plastic producers and\nsuppliers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo directly, because at that time the delegation was with Bulog,\nthey immediately made a deal, you know, deal-making like that,\u201d said Sam\nduring a discussion held by the Government Communication Agency at the\nPresidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Monday (20\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>According to Sam, the bags are not only used for packaging but also\nfor storing rice without the need for chemicals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn large-scale storage, it can have a zipper, reusable multiple\ntimes. Well, it can last up to 2 years without fumigation or special\ntreatment,\u201d said Sam.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, he added, Bulog has not yet signed a transaction for\npurchasing the plastic from Malaysia to date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot yet, not yet. It\u2019s still just exploration. Meaning we have other\nsources,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>As is known, the rise in plastic prices is felt by industry players,\nState-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises\n(MSMEs).<\/p>\n<p>Plastic prices have surged due to 70 percent of naphtha supplies\noriginating from Gulf countries being disrupted as a result of the war\nin West Asia (Middle East).<\/p>\n<p>President Director of PT ID Food, Ghimoyo, once complained about the\nplastic issue during a Working Meeting with Commission IV of the\nIndonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).<\/p>\n<p>According to him, business actors, including SOEs, are facing\npackaging difficulties because plastic producers are experiencing raw\nmaterial shortages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is more crucial because it affects all food, all fertiliser,\nall rice using plastic sacks, then kilo packaging, cooking oil packaging\nalso using the same material,\u201d said Ghimoyo at the DPR RI, Tuesday\n(7\/4\/2026).<\/p>",
