Bukaka wins loading bridge contract<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Bukaka Teknik Utama, a publicly-listed
\nsubsidiary of the Bukaka Group, has won a US$75 million contract
\nfor the construction of 76 aircraft loading bridges for Hong
\nKong's Chek Lap Kok airport.<\/p>\n
\"This is the biggest single contract we have gained for
\naircraft loading bridges,\" Fadel Muhammad, president of the
\ngroup, told journalists yesterday.<\/p>\n
He said Hong Kong's Provisional Airport Authority selected
\nBukaka from among noted companies from Japan, Germany, Sweden,
\nThe Netherlands and the United States.<\/p>\n
Rahmat Ismail, a director of Bukaka Teknik, said that his
\ncompany was the only manufacturer of aircraft loading bridges in
\nthe world to have obtained an ISO-9001 quality assurance
\ncertificate.<\/p>\n
Bukaka Teknik, which is concerned with the engineering and
\nmanufacture of infrastructure-related products, sold 40 million
\nshares on the Jakarta and Surabaya Stock Exchanges last December.<\/p>\n
Besides aircraft loading bridges, the company also produces
\nvacuum tank trucks, mobile rescue trucks, special trailers,
\nasphalt-mixing plants, rice-milling plants, oil-pumping units,
\nstorage tanks, conveyor belts, ship loaders and unloaders, steel
\ntowers, transmission lines, electrical power plants, runway
\nsweepers and aircraft re-fueling equipment.<\/p>\n
Bukaka has exported a number of its products, including
\naircraft loading bridges, to neighboring countries. It has
\nexported 142 loading bridges to China, Japan, Singapore and
\nThailand.<\/p>\n
Fadel said that Bukaka Teknik had negotiated an offshore
\nsyndicated loan of US$55 million from foreign banks, with an
\ninterest rate 1.5 points above the Singapore Inter-Banks Offered
\nRate (SIBOR).<\/p>\n
\"The loan shows that the banks' confidence in Bukaka's
\nprospects has increased,\" Fadel said, adding that the money would
\nbe used to strengthen the company's operating funds.<\/p>\n
Suhaeli Kalla, vice president of Bukaka Teknik, said the
\nsyndicated loan was being lead-managed by the First National Bank
\nof Boston, Kexim Asia Limited and L.F.C. Far East Ltd.<\/p>\n
Executives of Bukaka Teknik will sign the syndicated loan
\nagreement today, Fadel said.(rid)<\/p>",
