Indonesia's budget deficit reached IDR 135.7 trillion (0.53 per cent of GDP) by the end of February 2026, according to Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, representing a significant increase from IDR 30.7 trillion in February 2025 but remaining within the 2026 budget framework. The government attributed the higher early-year deficit to a more evenly distributed spending pattern designed in the 2026 budget, with revenue performance showing positive momentum, particularly from taxation reaching IDR 290 trillion.

Jakarta — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa reported that the
state budget deficit by the end of February 2026 reached IDR 135.7
trillion, equivalent to 0.53 per cent of gross domestic product
(GDP).

The Minister acknowledged that whilst this figure remained within the
2026 budget corridor, it represented a substantial increase compared to
the budget deficit for the same period in February 2025, which was IDR
30.7 trillion or approximately 0.13 per cent of GDP.

“The budget deficit of around IDR 135.7 trillion or 0.53 per cent of
GDP is still within the design and corridor of the 2026 budget,” Purbaya
stated during a press conference on the APBN KITA (Our Budget) report
for March 2026 on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

He explained that the 2026 budget had been intentionally designed to
accommodate a more evenly distributed spending pattern from the
beginning of the fiscal year. Consequently, the deficit would naturally
emerge more quickly in the early months of the budget year.

The government therefore assured that fiscal conditions remained in
line with the design outlined in the 2026 budget.

On the revenue side, Purbaya also reported that state income
performance in early 2026 had demonstrated positive momentum,
particularly from the taxation sector.

He stated that state revenue by the end of February 2026 reached IDR
358 trillion, or 12.8 per cent of the 2026 budget target of IDR 3,153.6
trillion. This realisation increased 12.58 per cent compared to the same
period last year, which reached only IDR 317.4 trillion.

In detail, tax revenue reached IDR 290 trillion or 10.8 per cent of
the target of IDR 2,693.7 trillion, up from tax revenue in February 2025
of IDR 240.6 trillion. Non-tax state revenue (PNBP) amounted to IDR 68
trillion or 14.8 per cent of the target of IDR 459.2 trillion.

On the expenditure side, Purbaya reported that actual spending
reached IDR 493.8 trillion or approximately 12.8 per cent of the state
spending ceiling in the 2026 budget, which totalled IDR 3,842.7
trillion. This realisation rose 41.9 per cent compared to state spending
in February 2025, which was IDR 348.1 trillion.

“The government will continue to encourage various factors in order
to strengthen economic growth and ensure fiscal performance is
maintained throughout this year,” he said.
",
