        "content": "<p>Jakarta \u2014 Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa plans to streamline\nspending for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) priority programme.<\/p>\n<p>Purbaya believes that the implementation method and expenditure\npattern of the programme can still be improved to become more efficient\nwithout reducing its benefits to the public. As is known, the MBG\nprogramme budget reaches Rp 335 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe MBG (programme) will be made more efficient in terms of their\nspending. I think MBG is a good programme,\u201d said Purbaya when met at the\nOffice of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs on Monday, 16\nMarch 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Purbaya emphasised that budget efficiency is carried out without\nreducing benefits to the public. This is because the main objective of\nthe programme is to improve the nutritional quality of society,\nparticularly for children, so they do not experience health problems\nsuch as stunting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLater people will criticise us (if we reduce MBG benefits) because\nthis is a good programme and since not everyone is wealthy, many are\npoor, which results in stunting, so the implementation will be\noptimised,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked by reporters whether the MBG budget could be reduced from\nthe initial figure of Rp 335 trillion while still achieving nutritional\nadequacy goals, Purbaya stated that this was possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think so,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
