Buddhists to hold social activities<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Buddhists who are members of the Vihara Nirmala
\nFoundation in Tangerang will be doing voluntary social work in
\nhonor of the Buddhist holiday of Cioko on Friday.<\/p>\n
The organizing committee has also prepared various other
\nprograms including pray services, the foundation's chairman,
\nBudhi Suardaya, was quoted by Antara as saying yesterday.<\/p>\n
Budhi said during that the volunteer work, garments, school
\nequipment and more than 20 tons of rice will be donated to
\nvarious orphanages, social institutions taking care of elderly
\npeople, Islamic boarding schools and poor people. This year's
\ncommemoration of the Cioko holiday will reflect Buddhists' social
\nsolidarity toward the public at large, he said.<\/p>\n
Budhi also told reporters that financial donations from the
\nTangerang administration as well from several donors have enabled
\nthe foundation to start renovating Vihara Nirmala monastery which
\nwas built more than 300 years ago.<\/p>\n
Budhi, who was accompanied by another executive of the
\nfoundation, Trisno Budiyanto, said the renovation work will cost
\naround Rp 500 million.<\/p>\n
"The total fund has yet to be collected as we are still
\nwaiting for financial donations from other donors, either in
\ngroups or individuals, so that the renovation work can be
\ncompleted as scheduled," Budhi said.(bas)<\/p>",
