Buddhists attend 'Pindapatta'<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Dharmayana, a Buddhist club based at the
\nprivately owned Tarumanagara University, held a Pindapatta
\nceremony on the university campus in West Jakarta yesterday.<\/p>\n
The club said in a press release that this year's event was
\nthe biggest ever in terms of the number of participants.<\/p>\n
It said the university has held such a ceremony three times so
\nfar.<\/p>\n
This year's ceremony, a club spokesman said, was attended by
\nvirtually all members of Buddhist youth groups from various
\nuniversities and high schools in Jakarta. He said Budi Setiawan,
\na high-ranking official of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, was
\namong the notables in attendance.<\/p>\n
Pindapatta is a ritual Buddhist tradition which has been held
\nsince the era of Ancient Buddha hundreds of years ago, up until
\nthe current era of Sakyamuni Buddha.<\/p>\n
Buddhism followers believe that if someone takes part in
\nPindapatta, he or she will be liked by many people, blessed with
\na long life, happiness and reincarnated to a better world after
\nthey died. This ceremony is usually held every day in
\npredominantly Buddhist countries such as Thailand, Myanmar, Sri
\nLanka, Korea, Tibet and Taiwan. (bas)<\/p>",
