The National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) held a Historical Trace\nof Cryptography event to commemorate its 80th anniversary. The event\ntook place at Rumah Sandi Dukuh, Samigaluh, Kulon Progo.<\/p>\n
The event began with a ceremony at Lapangan Dekso, led by BSSN Chief,\nNugroho Sulistyo Budi. Under the theme \u2018Traces of Cryptography, Pillars\nof Cyber Serving the Nation\u2019, the activity served as a reflection on the\nlong journey of cryptography while strengthening its role in national\ncyber security.<\/p>\n
The historical trace was attended by around 165 members of BSSN\u2019s\nleadership, cadets from the National Cyber and Crypto Polytechnic\n(Poltek SSN), representatives from the DIY Communication and Informatics\nForum, local government officials, students, and journalists.<\/p>\n
Participants followed the route once used by couriers to deliver\nsecret messages during the independence struggle. The hilly terrain and\nagricultural fields traversed depicted the challenges of maintaining\ninformation security before the digital era.<\/p>\n
In addition, participants viewed a collection of historical artefacts\nsuch as cryptography writing tools, media for storing secret messages,\nand documentation of past cryptography systems, including the legacy of\nnational cryptography figure, Dr Roebiono Kertopati.<\/p>\n
BSSN Chief, Lieutenant General (Ret.) TNI Nugroho Sulistyo Budi,\nemphasised that current information security challenges are far more\ncomplex amid digital transformation.<\/p>\n
\u2018In the current perspective, because data is now digital, the threats\nare also increasingly complex. In the past, people had to come in\nperson; now the systems are stolen, with malware, ransomware, and\nvarious technologies,\u2019 said Nugroho when met at Lapangan Dekso,\nKalibawang, Kulon Progo, on Tuesday morning (31\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
Nugroho explained that although the form of threats has changed, the\nessence of the challenge remains the same, namely safeguarding the\nconfidentiality of state information. He added that this historical\ntrace event is important for re-instilling the values of struggle from\nthe cryptography pioneers.<\/p>\n
\u2018The challenges are the same, only the situations and perspectives\ndiffer. In the past, troop movements could be detected; now sensitive\ninformation can be exposed to adversaries,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
\u2018What we appreciate here is the spirit, dedication, and sacrifice. In\nthe past, even lives were at stake. Now the impact is also not light if\ndata leaks,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Nugroho stated that Indonesia has a long history in\ncryptography, which has developed since the World War II era.<\/p>\n
