        "content": "<p>Brunei sets up council on crisis<\/p>\n<p>BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (AP): Brunei's sultan has appointed his<br>\nbrother to head a fledgling economic council tasked with ensuring<br>\nthat the tiny oil-rich kingdom remains insulated from the shocks<br>\nof the Asian economic crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah named his brother, Prince Mohamed<br>\nBolkiah, to preside over the newly-formed Ministerial Economic<br>\nCouncil, the Prime Minister's office said Tuesday in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The MEC will evaluate \"the current economic situation of the<br>\ncountry and the region\" and plan \"short and long-term action<br>\nnecessary for the country as a whole\", it said.<\/p>\n<p>The statement provided no other details about how the council<br>\nwill operate. It was not immediately clear how Brunei felt<br>\nthreatened by the Asian downturn but some big Brunei-based<br>\nprivate companies appear to be in trouble.<\/p>",
