        "content": "<p>Brunei hopes for transparency<\/p>\n<p>BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (AP): A day after Brunei's Sultan reached<br>\nan out-of-court settlement with his estranged brother, observers<br>\nwelcomed the deal and said they hoped it lead to greater<br>\ngovernment transparency.<\/p>\n<p>In a surprise move, the Sultan announced Saturday that his<br>\nyoungest brother Prince Jefri Bolkiah had agreed to return all<br>\nthe money he had taken from the Brunei Investment Agency, the<br>\ncountry's investment arm.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement ended a three-month court battle that had caused<br>\na rift in the royal family, which has ruled the tightly-<br>\ncontrolled, oil-rich sultanate on Borneo Island for more than 600<br>\nyears.<\/p>\n<p>Political observers said they hoped the court case against a<br>\nmember of the royal family would set a precedent for scrutinizing<br>\nthe actions of public officials in a nation that has no<br>\nparliament, no presentation of annual budgets and no disclosure<br>\nof balance sheets.<\/p>",
