The Mount Bromo area within the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park\n(TNBTS) has been hit by forest and land fires once again. This marks the\nsecond occurrence following a major fire incident last August.<\/p>\n
Satriyo Nurseno, Head of Emergency and Logistics at the East Java\nRegional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD Jatim), stated that this fire\nbroke out on Thursday afternoon (10\/9) at approximately 16:00 WIB, in\nthe Savana Pengol area, Ngadas Village, Sukapura District, Probolinggo\nRegency.<\/p>\n
Driven by strong winds, the flames spread rapidly towards the\nWatangan Valley, popularly known as Teletubbies Hill.<\/p>\n
\u201cA joint team consisting of BPBD Jatim, Probolinggo Regency BPBD,\nBromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), the TNI, Polri, and\nvolunteers responded immediately with firefighting efforts,\u201d said\nSatriably on Friday (11\/9).<\/p>\n
However, Satriyo noted that the steep and difficult terrain has\nprevented firefighting via land routes. Consequently, since Friday\nmorning, the BPBD Jatim team has deployed the PK-DAP helicopter to\nconduct water bombing operations.<\/p>\n
The helicopter, which has a 1,000-litre bucket capacity, collects\nwater from Lake Ranu Pani in Senduro, Lumajang, to drop on various fire\nhotspots.<\/p>\n
Satriyo Nurseno revealed that as of 12:00 WIB today, water bombing\noperations have been conducted 17 times, with a total of 17,000 litres\nof water discharged.<\/p>\n
\u201cDue to the current condition of very thick fog at the site, we\ncannot continue water bombing operations for safety reasons,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
In addition to aerial efforts, joint team personnel are stationed on\nthe ground to monitor the fire\u2019s progress and anticipate any spread to\nlower-lying areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe total area affected by the fire is still being assessed, and the\nfire has currently spread to the Gunung Kursi area,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
As a precautionary measure, the TNBTS management office has closed\naccess to Mount Bromo via the Jemplang route in Malang. This closure\nremains in effect until further notice.<\/p>\n
As previously reported, the Mount Bromo area underwent a massive fire\nthat lasted 13 days, from the first ignition on 3 August 2026, until it\nwas fully extinguished and declared fire-free by the joint team on 14\nAugust 2026.<\/p>\n
