Briton examined for illegal entry<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The immigration directorate general is
\nquestioning a Briton for illegally entering Indonesia after being
\ndeported last year, an official said Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Zaiman Nurmatias, director of immigration supervision, said
\nthat the Briton, named Lie Siu Hwie and former holder of a
\nCertificate of Identity Hong Kong No. D2939607, was arrested in a
\nhotel on Jl. M.H.Thamrin, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"Lie belongs to a group of people blacklisted by the
\n(Indonesian) government. But Lie managed to enter Indonesia by
\nusing a different name and passport,\" Zaiman said.<\/p>\n
Zaiman said Lie had been blacklisted since Dec. 19 last year
\nfor illegally sponsoring 14 farmers from China to work at his
\ntravel agency, PT Aliansi Globe Jaya.<\/p>\n
Lie managed to enter the country on April 24, 1997, on a
\ntourist visa using a British National Overseas passport No.
\n613153671, bearing the name of Lee Su Wai.<\/p>\n
Using this passport, Lie had visited Indonesia three times and
\nstayed for one month in the final visit to discuss with his
\nfriends about a plan to set up an electricity joint venture firm
\nunder a foreign investment scheme, Zaiman said.<\/p>\n
The director said that as a foreigner holding a limited-stay
\nvisa, Lie, who was born in Purwokerto, Central Java in 1951, was
\nnot allowed to sponsor other foreigners to work in Indonesia.
