        "content": "<p>British firm launches digital decoder<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Indovision viewers will be able to get clearer<br>\nsatellite TV pictures with a new digital decoder released<br>\nyesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The decoder will enable parents to restrict children&apos;s viewing<br>\nand will automatically announce selected programs while the<br>\nviewer is watching another program. These facilities are not<br>\navailable with current analog decoders.<\/p>\n<p>Britain&apos;s Pace Digital Technology makes the decoder.<\/p>\n<p>Pace general manager in Indonesia Tony Crane said yesterday<br>\nthe company aimed to sell 30,000 decoders over the next six<br>\nmonths.<\/p>\n<p>The decoder will retail for Rp 1.64 million (US$694). Analog<br>\ndecoders sell for Rp 650,000.<\/p>\n<p>The decoder has multimedia capabilities when connected to the<br>\ntelecommunications network by modem and when the services are<br>\nprovided by Indovision.<\/p>\n<p>Potential services include video on demand and teleshopping.<\/p>\n<p>Crane said the company would sell the multimedia version of<br>\nthe medium when Indovision started its multimedia service.<\/p>\n<p>Indovision, which is Indonesia&apos;s only pay-TV operator, started<br>\nbroadcasting digital programs and increased its service to 19<br>\nchannels last month. It plans to launch its own satellite,<br>\nIndostar, later this year.<\/p>\n<p>Pace has a manufacturing plant in Thailand. Crane said the<br>\ncompany would open another plant in Indonesia next year if<br>\ndemand justified it.<\/p>\n<p>Pace began as a modem producer but has focused on decoders<br>\nsince 1985. Users of its products include Australia&apos;s Galaxy,<br>\nThailand&apos;s Shinawatra, and India&apos;s Star TV.<\/p>\n<p>Cane said Indovision had also asked another decoder maker,<br>\nThompson of the United States, to sell its products to Indovision<br>\nsubscribers.
