        "content": "<p>British bank opens here<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Westmerchant Bank of Britain has opened a branch<br>\noffice here, hoping to expand its services in financing<br>\ninfrastructure projects and export activities in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>\"Our main business in Indonesia will be to finance<br>\ninfrastructure projects and export activities,\" Westmerchant<br>\nBank's chief executive officer, Patrick Macdougall, told the<br>\nmedia here yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>He said that his bank's total credits in Indonesia now stand<br>\nat about US$500 million, mostly for projects such as the coal-<br>\nfired steam power plant Paiton II in East Java.<\/p>\n<p>He added, however, that his bank's activities worldwide are<br>\nmainly financing capital market activities, mergers and<br>\nacquisitions.<\/p>\n<p>\"We may get involved in the Jakarta capital market.
