Britain's Faldo to play in Bali Asian Masters<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Number three in the world Nick Faldo of England
\nwill head the star-studded premier golf event in Indonesia
\nscheduled to tee off at Bali Golf and Country Club in Nusa Dua on
\nNov. 3.<\/p>\n
A field of 120 golfers, which also include world number eight
\nSouth African David Frost, ninth ranked Colin Montgomerie of
\nBritain and Vijay Singh of Fiji now ranked number 17, will vie
\nfor US$345,000 in the Alfred Dunhill Asian Masters.<\/p>\n
\"The beautiful island of Bali was elected to host the new
\ntournament as it has been able to attract many of world's top
\nplayers,\" said Richard Cole of Alfred Dunhill Pacific yesterday.<\/p>\n
After two rounds the field will be reduced to 60 players and
\nthe winner will collect a cash prize of $62,100.<\/p>\n
Seventy of the 120 players in the field will come from the
\nAustralasian Tour and 40 from Asia including stars like Frankie
\nMinoza of the Philippines, Choi Sang-ho of South Korea,
\nThailand's Boanchu Ruangkit, Singapore's Simson Gimson and
\nIndonesian leading golfers Kasiyadi, Budiono, Maan Naasim, Ilyas
\nSyak and veteran Sumarno.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Circuit<\/p>\n
Meanwhile on the Jakarta Golf Circuit, now entering its third
\nround at the Ancol layout, Maan continued his perfect play to
\nhold onto the lead by two strokes with a 2-under 208 (68 70 70)
\nyesterday.<\/p>\n
Buari was second despite closing the round with a fine 2-under
\n68 for a three-day total of 210 (72 70 68).<\/p>\n
However, it was Gemmy Subagio who stole a bit of the thunder
\nwhen he fired a 4-under 66 for a 214 (74 74 66) and shared the
\nfourth place with Kasiyadi (70 70 74). Kasiyadi was the 1989
\nIndonesia Open champion at the Rawamangun course, collected a
\n214 (74 74 66).<\/p>\n
Ilyas Syak, winner of the first leg of the Circuit at the
\nSawangan lay out last week, was third with a 212 (73 69 70)
\n(rsl).<\/p>\n
