Britain-and U.S. expands travel warning for Indonesia<\/p>\n

The United States and Britain on Monday expanded their warning
\nto their citizens about terrorist threats in Indonesia, saying
\nthat attacks may be imminent and adding resorts to a list of
\npotential targets.<\/p>\n
The U.S. embassy in Jakarta said U.S. citizens should be
\n"particularly vigilant in the immediate future" and reminded them
\nthat threats in Indonesia continued to exist outside the capital
\nand tourist locations on the island of Bali, the site of a deadly
\nbombing on Oct. 12.<\/p>\n
"Americans should avoid large gatherings and locations known
\nto cater to a foreign clientele, including but not limited to
\nresorts, tourist sights, nightclubs, bars, restaurants and places
\nof worship," it said in a notice to U.S. citizens in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Monday's warning said that a threat of attack -- first
\nmentioned by the embassy on Sept. 19 -- also remained in
\nYogyakarta, in Central Java and other areas in the vicinity.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Jack Straw told the parliament in
\nLondon: "In the light of additional intelligence assessed this
\nmorning, I am strengthening the travel advice still further by
\ngiving additional warnings about threats to UK nationals at
\nspecific locations in Indonesia."<\/p>\n
Britain's new caution listed Bali, Jakarta, Balikpapan,
\nSurabaya and Yogyakarta as particularly dangerous for Britons and
\nsaid the Jakarta suburbs of Kota, Jl. Hayam Wuruk, Taman Anggrek,
\nPasar Baru and Pasar Senen should be avoided at all costs.<\/p>\n
"Further attacks cannot be ruled out," Straw said.<\/p>\n
The flurry of new warnings for Indonesia follows the Oct. 12
\nbombing of two tourist bars in Bali, that killed at least 184
\npeople, mostly foreigners, and injured more than 300.<\/p>\n
The American death toll in the Bali bomb attack is believed to
\nhave reached seven, with two identified and five others
\nunidentified but presumed dead, a U.S consular official said
\nMonday.<\/p>\n
However, Thomas C. Daniels said that figure could go higher,
\nsince 45 Americans are listed as missing since the Oct. 12 blast.<\/p>\n
Eleven Britons are confirmed dead with another 22 missing
\npresumed killed in the nightclub blast.<\/p>\n
Australians are believed to top the lists of the victims of
\nthe Bali bombs.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, Australia issued a new travel warning on Indonesia
\nfor the fourth time.<\/p>\n
In this latest report, the Australian Foreign Ministry added
\nresorts outside major cities and historical and cultural
\nlocations including Borobudur to the list of areas to be avoided.<\/p>",
