'Bringing terrorists to court is waste of time'<\/p>\n
The recent terrorist bombing of the JW Marriott Hotel in South
\nJakarta claimed at least 10 lives and left around 150 injured.
\nThe blast occurred less than a month after a bomb attack at the
\nlegislative compound in the capital. Many people condemned the
\nattacks and criticized security authorities for failing to
\nanticipate the attack. The Jakarta Post talked with some
\nresidents on their views.<\/p>\n
Eka Dewi, 21, works at a hotel on Jl. M.H. Thamrin, Central
\nJakarta. She lives in Karet, South Jakarta:<\/p>\n
I feel terribly sad about the bombing of the JW Marriott
\nHotel, which has affected dozens of innocent people.<\/p>\n
I condemn the terrorists who committed such an inhumane
\nattack. They are not human beings; they don't have a heart. They
\ndon't care about the impact on the nation's future due to their
\nacts.<\/p>\n
Their thoughtless deeds have worsened the already tarnished
\nimage of the country in the world. It's a disaster for us.<\/p>\n
I also thank God for saving me from the tragedy. Before the
\nincident, I was waiting for a final decision on my recruitment to
\nthe Marriott.<\/p>\n
I'm working now at a different hotel, but I cannot deny that I
\nfeel so worried, realizing that a hotel could be a terrorist
\ntarget.<\/p>\n
No one and no place can guarantee our safety now, even though
\nwe have our own security personnel and system to anticipate any
\npossible threats.<\/p>\n
Worse, the incident has sparked distrust in the police. They
\nhave always failed to solve bombing cases in the capital. I just
\nwonder what they are doing now.<\/p>\n
I think the perpetrators of the bombing here should face the
\ndeath sentence. Otherwise, the terrorists will remain free to
\ncarry out more attacks like these.<\/p>\n
Bringing them to court is just a waste of time and money. The
\ncourt cannot punish them enough for what they did and the
\ncasualties they caused.<\/p>\n
They are just terrorists who deserve to be shot.<\/p>\n

The police always fail to prevent bomb attacks against many
\npublic facilities and places in the city. They should anticipate
\nall possible attacks, not only for important places like the
\nlegislative compound.<\/p>\n
Our security still has so many loopholes that allow terrorists
\nto attack at any time. Poor country!<\/p>\n
I hate to mention that certain high-ranking officials said
\nrecently that terrorism was not a serious threat in the city. I
\nhate them, as they seem to have made a compromise with the
\nterrorists.<\/p>\n
I completely agree that the death penalty should be handed
\ndown to the terrorist who did this. Taking them to court would
\nonly be a waste of time.<\/p>\n
I imagine trapping those responsible in a building and then
\nblowing them up, so they can feel for themselves how terrible are
\nthe sufferings of the innocent victims.<\/p>\n
I prefer former president Soeharto's regime, since he was able
\nto curb terrorist threats. Perhaps it's time to employ secret
\noperatives to eradicate radical groups that have the potential to
\nbecome terrorists.<\/p>\n

I am not too shocked by the recent bombing, as such attacks
\nare now common in this city. I am just sad that so many innocent
\nlives were lost.<\/p>\n
I don't know what to say about the police's performance
\nanymore. They should have learned from the previous incidents,
\nbut they haven't even succeeded in solving them so far.<\/p>\n
They could have taken stern measures against alleged terrorist
\nsuspects in anticipation of other possible threats.<\/p>\n
I'm just disappointed about the corrupt mentality and behavior
\nof the police, because their attitude and professionalism are
\nimportant factors in anticipating possible terrorist attacks.
\nThey are always negligent when it comes to law enforcement.<\/p>\n
I don't think the terrorists should be brought to court. It
\ntakes time and money, and it's completely meaningless. After all,
\nterrorists only deserve the death sentence.<\/p>\n
