        "content": "<p>The three homes were built in 2021-2022 as part of\nearthquake-resistant construction research begun by the former Agency\nfor Technology Assessment and Application and continued by BRIN.<\/p>\n<p>BRIN engineer Vian Marantha Haryanto said on Tuesday that the homes\nwere designed for high-seismic-risk areas such as East Nusa Tenggara\n(NTT) Province.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese homes use earthquake-resistant construction technology\ndesigned for disaster-prone areas such as NTT. The results show the\ndesign can protect structures and, most importantly, occupants,\u201d Vian\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>BRIN found no structural cracks in the walls, columns or foundations.\nDamage was limited to cosmetic issues, including bathroom tiles that\ndetached or broke during shaking.<\/p>\n<p>Although field inspections found the structures intact, BRIN will\nconduct further laboratory tests for technical validation, using cyclic\ntesting under Indonesian standard SNI 3966:2012.<\/p>\n<p>The laboratory testing method has been prepared and is scheduled to\nbe conducted in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe major earthquake that struck NTT on Aug.\u00a015, 2026, provided a\nfield test for the technology,\u201d Vian said.<\/p>\n<p>The homes use rubber-bearing seismic technology to dampen earthquake\nvibrations, developed by BRIN\u2019s Center for Composite and Biomaterial\nResearch using natural rubber or elastic polymers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRubber-bearing seismic technology separates the building\u2019s lower and\nupper structures, helping absorb shear forces during an earthquake and\nreduce the shaking transmitted to the structure,\u201d Vian said.<\/p>\n<p>The BRIN-developed homes are also modular, making the innovation a\npotential model for rehabilitating and rebuilding housing in\ndisaster-prone areas.<\/p>\n<p>BRIN is encouraging wider replication of the earthquake-resistant\nhousing model, not only in East Nusa Tenggara but also in other\nearthquake-prone parts of Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative aims to improve housing safety while reducing building\ndamage risks when future earthquakes occur.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: BRIN unveils 200 homegrown innovations to President\nPrabowo<\/p>\n<p>Related news: NTT quake aid fund reaches US$244,000, provincial govt\nsays<\/p>\n<p>Translator: Sean FM, Rahmad Nasution<\/p>",
