Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has partnered with South Korea's Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) to advance mass production of high-value natural products through smart farming technologies tailored to tropical climates. The collaboration focuses on precise nutrient measurement for Indonesian crops, aiming to optimise local bio-products for global standards and economic value, with joint patents to be registered internationally. This initiative supports BRIN's efforts in sustainable industrial and manufacturing systems, marked by a formal agreement signed in Jakarta.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)
has officially established a collaboration with the Korea Institute of
Science and Technology (KIST) from South Korea to develop mass
production of high-value natural products in Indonesia through smart
farming systems.

Head of the Centre for Research on Sustainable Industrial and
Manufacturing Systems (PRSIMB) at BRIN, Nugroho Adi Sasongko, stated
that this collaboration represents the second phase of an ongoing
partnership.

“We are focusing on the characteristics of nutrient absorption in
Indonesia’s superior crops at each growth stage. Through KIST’s smart
farming technology, we can precisely measure the composition of nutrient
solutions required under tropical climate conditions. This is essential
to ensure that our natural products meet global industry standards,”
said Nugroho in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

By adopting the smart farming technology developed by KIST, he
continued, Indonesia is expected to optimise the potential of local
biological products into high economic value natural products.

“Every new discovery resulting from this collaborative research will
be registered as an international patent through cooperation with the
Korea Intellectual Property Association (KIPA),” Nugroho added.

According to him, this step is part of BRIN’s broader efforts to
support the development of sustainable industrial and manufacturing
systems in the country.

It is known that this strategic collaboration was officially
formalised through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) by the
Chairman of the PRSIMB BRIN Project Cooperation, Dudi Iskandar, and the
Team Leader as well as KIST Cooperation Coordinator Soo Hyun Park,
represented by Lee Ju Young, at the BRIN Thamrin Office in Jakarta on 28
March 2026.
",
