        "content": "<p>The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is making\npartnerships with the private sector a management model for four\nbotanical gardens to strengthen conservation, research, education, and\npublic services. Head of BRIN Arif Satria stated in Bogor, West Java, on\nFriday that strengthening public-private partnerships (PPP) is one\nstrategy for facing global change while encouraging innovation-based\ndevelopment. The four ex-situ plant conservation areas are the Bogor\nBotanical Gardens, Cibodas Botanical Gardens, Purwodadi Botanical\nGardens, and Bali Botanical Gardens, where public service and tourism\nmanagement involves PT Mitra Natura Raya (MNR). \u201cOne of the main\nstrategies in facing massive global change is strengthening\npublic-private partnerships. The private sector has a crucial role in\nadvancing the national industry,\u201d said Arif. Through this partnership\nscheme, BRIN continues to carry out its main functions in research,\nbiodiversity conservation, and environmental research, while MNR handles\naspects of public service and tourism. Private sector management covers\nvisitor management, hospitality services, diversification of creative\ntourism products, cleanliness, digital marketing, and maintenance of\npublic facilities. Since the partnership began in 2020, at least 13\nthematic gardens across the four botanical gardens have been revitalised\nand inaugurated as part of efforts to optimise assets while supporting\nconservation functions. Modernisation has also been carried out through\nthe development of the Kultura and Immerzoa programmes. Kultura packages\nIndonesian cultural education alternately within the botanical garden\nareas, while Immerzoa utilises immersive visual technology to deliver\neducation about the life cycles of plants and animals. Managing Director\nof PT Mitra Natura Raya Marga Anggrianto said the partnership proves\nthat creative innovation from the private sector can run in tandem with\nresearch and conservation interests. \u201cThe success of this botanical\ngarden partnership has a balanced proportion between asset optimisation,\ncreative tourism business development, and maintaining the dignity of\nthe botanical gardens, which are closely tied to the academic community\nand environmental issues,\u201d said Marga. According to him, through this\nscheme, the botanical garden assets remain state property, research\nactivities continue, while the management also provides economic and\neducational benefits for the community. This partnership model has also\nreceived recognition from the Ministry of Finance with the registration\nof MNR as an Asset Management Partner Institution in the management of\nstate assets. In addition, the PPP scheme for managing Indonesian\nbotanical gardens was presented at the International Congress on\nEducation in Botanical Gardens (ICEBG) 2025 in Seoul, South Korea. The\nmanagement model also became a research object in a paper titled\nEvaluating Public-Private Partnerships in Indonesian Botanical Gardens:\nImplications for Conservation and Edu-tourism, published in the\nProceedings of the 9th Asia Euro Conference 2026. In 2026, the\nIndonesian Botanical Gardens under MNR\u2019s operational management also\nreceived a tourism award at the ASEAN Tourism Awards 2026 in the\nPhilippines.
