A Brimob (Mobile Brigade) police vehicle was severely damaged after\nbeing struck by a train at a railway crossing in Tapen, Argosari,\nSedayu, Bantul, on Thursday morning. The two officers inside survived\nthe incident. Police stated that the level crossing did not yet have an\nautomatic barrier.<\/p>\n
The accident occurred at 8:30 AM, involving a train and a Brimob\nvehicle at the Tapen crossing. \u201cThere were no fatalities, only damage to\nthe front of the car,\u201d said Arif Fatimah, the Jogoboyo for Kalurahan\nArgosari.<\/p>\n
Arif explained that the vehicle was near a bend, and the guard post\nfor the crossing barrier was not yet operational. \u201cIt was about to cross\nand was struck by the train. Because of its position on the bend, the\ndriver was not concentrating. He had already moved forward, and\nreversing would have been too close to the oncoming train,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Police confirmed the official vehicle was sideswiped by an airport\ntrain travelling from the north. The vehicle, an Isuzu with registration\nnumber 17416-XX IV, was driven by Bripka Yudi Saputro, 39, with\npassenger Bripda Tommy Priambada, 31.<\/p>\n
Bantul Police spokesperson Iptu Rita Hidayanto said the vehicle was\nattempting to cross from the south. Upon arriving at the location, the\ndriver allegedly failed to observe the situation on the tracks and did\nnot notice the airport train, driven by engineer Asrul, approaching from\nthe north. \u201cBecause the distance was already close, the train sideswiped\nthe front bonnet of the car,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Police suspect the accident occurred because the automatic barrier\nsystem at the level crossing was not yet functioning. Rita revealed that\nthe railway crossing in Tapen hamlet was not yet equipped with an\nautomatic barrier system and had no guard on duty. Although a crossing\npost building has been erected at the site, the safety facilities were\nonly scheduled to officially begin operation next month. \u201cThe crossing\nbarrier at the location is not yet automatic and there is no guard, even\nthough a post has been built. The facilities are planned to start\noperating in August 2026,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Police also assessed that the driver\u2019s lack of vigilance when\ncrossing the tracks was the primary cause of the incident. The front of\nthe vehicle was damaged as a result of being struck by the train. Rita\nconfirmed that both the driver and passenger survived.
