        "content": "<p>Bridge meet interrupted by workers&apos; strike at hotel<\/p>\n<p>TANGERANG (JP): Some 200 workers of five-star Imperial Century<br>\nHotel in Lippo Karawaci staged a strike on Monday, paralyzing<br>\nalmost all of the hotel&apos;s activities, including a meeting of<br>\nPacific-Asia Bridge Federation (PABF).<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We are demanding full health insurance coverage for workers<br>\nand our family members, allowance to pay for the loss and<br>\nbreakage retention of hotel goods and a daily transportation<br>\nallowance of Rp 7,000 (85 U.S. cents) for all workers,&quot; said the<br>\nchairman of the hotel&apos;s workers union, Ronny Kusman.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We also demand an annual salary hike and a year-end party.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The workers also called for the dismissal of general manager<br>\nDouglas Wallace and financial controller Hendri Elfis for<br>\ndisrespectful behavior.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;They always act rudely and tell off the workers,&quot; employee<br>\nOtman told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n<p>The strike practically halted all of the hotel&apos;s services as<br>\nmost employees, except the receptionists, joined the strike.<\/p>\n<p>Many participants in the fourth PABF congress, which opened on<br>\nFriday, repeatedly complained about the situation.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was moved to another hotel.<\/p>\n<p>The strike ended with negotiations between the workers and<br>\nhotel management under mediation from an official from the<br>\nMinistry of Manpower&apos;s Tangerang office, Aman Setiawan, and a<br>\nrepresentative of the Tangerang branch of the All Indonesian<br>\nWorkers Union Federation (FSPSI), Arsad Ahmad.<\/p>\n<p>It was decided the hotel management would pay a transportation<br>\nallowance of Rp 4,000 per day for workers living in Tangerang and<br>\nRp 6,000 for those residing outside the area, such as Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the deal, the workers will also get an annual salary<br>\nraise, depending on the length of their service, performance and<br>\nthe hotel&apos;s financial condition.<\/p>\n<p>It was also agreed there would be 80 percent coverage of<br>\nhealth insurance for workers and their family members.<\/p>\n<p>Interviewed separately, evening on-duty manager of the hotel<br>\nEka Tresna said the strike lasted for several hours from 2 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>He said there was no foundation to the employees&apos; allegations.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The accusation that our top managers are rude is groundless,&quot;<br>\nhe told the Post over the phone.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It&apos;s also untrue our service was halted due to the strike.&quot;<br>\n(41\/nvn)<\/p>",
